Underdog’s is a renowned sports bar having its roots set in Northern India. It is well established and there is no doubt about it as the place has won tons of awards, to name a few- Times Nightlife Award, Beer in a bar by zomato, Best sports bar & grill by NDTV Profit, Best restobar by Indian Restaurant awards and winning the title at the Coco Cola Golden Spoons awards. USP of Underdoggs is the way it provides sporting fun with unique drinks and a fabulous menu.
WHY UNDERDOGGS? Everyone at some point in their life has left like one in different phases of life, be it work, school or life in general. It is something which we can relate to. The name Underdoggs came into picture because the people behind it put all on the line with this venture and set out to beat the odds. Walking past the walls, one can’t miss the spectacular monochrome walls which has every sports person who was considered nothing but rose up against every situation to tell a great story. Their Mascot, Tortoise was chosen to represent the Underdoggs brand as the race between the tortoise is by far the most recognized underdog stories around the world.
AMBIANCE: Perfect!! Definitely worth calling it a sports-bar. Reasons- The place is adorned by sporty wall graphics, cricket helmet and skateboard lights, sporting memorabilia, the baseball mitt bill holders and multitude of gaming options. 30 Large full HD TVs and projection screens placed at clever angles for complete viewing pleasure of live matches.
GAMING: There are 7 pool tables, dart boards, foosball, carom, table tennis, X Box kinect, Custom beer ping tables and multiple board games to choose from. Presence of these elements makes sure that you have no time to get bored and is easily a rejuvenating place for dull folks 😀
Food & Beverages: Huggee! That is how I would describe the options available here. One can sip on to the exquisite drinks like watermelon smash spiked with gin, Pineapple jalapeño margaritas, smoked rosemary & whiskey cocktails and cinnamon whiskey shots. Another novelty are their sporty beer tubes (2.64L) which makes drinking a team act!
Their Chicken wings with 14 signature sauces served as char-grilled or fried have become a rage as few of my foodie friends loved it so much that they told me not to miss it during
my visit here. Mouthwatering sauces include- Spicy honey garlic, Desi masala, butter chicken, tandoori, mango habenaro, garlic parmesan, honey barbecue, sweet chilli ginger, cajun alfredo, spicy harissa and traditional medium hot & suicide.
Naan Rolls is another USP of theirs which am sure you can’t get anywhere else in Bangalore. This can be customised based on your requirements- regular, butter or garlic naan. Four veg and non veg toppings include- Murg Rarah, Murg Haleem, Paneer Kulchan, Tawa wali subji, Nihari Ghost, Diwani Veg Handi, Gulmohar Murg Nawabi and Veg Haleem.
I was here as part of the Bloggers meet and was eager to visit this place from the day I was informed about it. I went through countless reviews of Underdoggs in Zomato to familiarize myself with the concept and offerings, was looking forward to a delectable delight along with the fun elements associated with the umpteen number of gaming options inside.
We set off with drinks (cocktails and mocktails). First up was Gayle’s Rum Runner and Mary Kom Cooler. Rum runner as the name suggests is a Rum flavored cocktail having our Desi Old Monk base and infused with Orange, Pineapple, Passion Fruit extracts. Mary Kom Cooler contains Green Cucumber , Apple, Khus (aromatic grass having Indian origin) with fizz of Sprite on ice.
Then came in the shots – Cinnamon Whiskey and Litchi Kamakazi. Cinnamon whiskey added the much required punch to normal whiskey, few shots down and am sure the feel good factor is at its peak. Cinnamon flavors are not overdone so you do get the actual taste of whiskey which makes it perfect. Lithchi Kamakazi is a combination of Litchi, vodka and lime extracts.
We then had wings, 4 tantalising flavours- Desi Spice, Spicy Harrisa, Garlic Parmesan and Butter Chicken. Desi Spice could easily be related to our Indian spices. Garlic Parmesan was slightly greasy and oily.
New Stadium Bites Menu Items includes lot of funky sounding dishes which can turn you into a munching machine while watching your favorite game. We tried Naan rolls and Tandoori Dim Sums. Naan rolls was best of the lot especially the butter garlic base along with deliciously tempting chicken toppings on it. You are supposed to pick them up and eat them ‘taco style’.
Popcorn shrimp is one of the new appetizers included in their menu, these are shrimp cooked over Panko parmesan crust. Served in a fancy bowl along with chipotle garlic aioli and mayo.
We had Makhani (Veg and Non Veg), Hot Ranch chicken and Garlic Lover’s (Veg and Non Veg) pizza. They got the base right as it was thin crust. Makhani pizza is more of fusion types with Indian flavors of Butter Chicken or Paneer.
Hot ranch chicken pizza is a must have for chicken lovers, this one has got their signature hot wing sauce with tomatoes and garlic, topped with grilled chicken, capsicum, mozzarella and drizzled with Ranch dressing.
DESSERTS: This was the most interesting bit about the overall spread. Curiosity in me was at its peak because the name on menu said- Rum Gulab Jamun as it seemed almost impossible to merge Rum along with this traditional Indian Sweet. It arrived on cocktail glasses and what a delightful way of presentation it was. So basically it is- Rum infused into the Gulab Jamun along with the sugar syrup. A scoop of ice cream on top made sure that the bitterness of Rum din’t mess the overall purpose of having a dessert. Very Innovative!
FINAL VERDICT: It was a great way to spend our Sunday evening catching up with blogger friends and getting to know about the heritage of Underdoggs. Indeed it was a fun evening which involved all of us playing the ultimate Beer Pong challenge. The specially curated menu for food and drinks stood out. The place definitely serves as go-to place to break from the mundane options in Bangalore.
