Ever heard of aged cocktails being served in Namma Bengaluru? Well, if you have then please do share the name of the places that serve them in the comments section below and if not then this post is surely going to excite you! Bar Uno, the signature cocktail lounge at JW Marriott recently launched a new menu that offers a range of exquisite drinks that is specially curated by Bar Chef Abhishek Shevade brings with him the technique of creating infused cocktails and is eager to begin the trend of aged cocktails which is fast growing popularity for its mellow, unique characters and flavours.
I was here a couple of weeks back to get a first-hand feel of the cocktails prepared by the Bar Chef himself. First to arrive was Johnny ki Chai that according to chef was just a welcome drink 😀 This Johnny Walker Whiskey-based cocktail has homemade orange syrup, marmalade, honey, tea extracts and a pinch of saffron, all of which indicates that it is slightly on the sweeter side and it was easy to drink. Next up was The Uno Master that’s a Jim Beam Whiskey sour mixed with American Nejire and has a touch of Lagavulin, topped with egg white foam.
Fall to Rise comes in XL sized Chardonnay glass, this is a perfect Sunday Brunch kinda drink that is easy going, it is made from Bacardi Carta Blanca, Coconut, Aperol and lime. I have never had Bombay Sapphire before, it was twist the Jamun cocktail that made me taste it for the first time, though the drink was quite well camouflaged with lime and homemade Jamun syrup you could still feel the Gin in every sip.
Uno Colada was my favorite among the lot, they’ve used one of the most famous Rum (can’t reveal it!) that’s aged and topped with coconut, roasted apple juice, fresh papaya reduction and pineapple syrup. Basically, another cocktail that was smooth and easy to drink.
Final drink of the evening was the Aged Negroni. In general, this stunning has equal measures of Gin, Vermouth and Campari, but JW Marriott Bengaluru has gone beyond the conventions (for the good!) by aging it for 20 days in a brand new oak barrel. Another interesting aspect is that the finished drink is not made with equal parts of the three liquor mentioned above! Chef Abhishek’s take on this Aged Negroni – ‘It is important to me that I get the right amount of oak aging, so I had to face the terrible chore of tasting the cocktail every day to gauge how quickly it was taking on the oak and plumped for a twenty-day period’. Being a signature cocktail it does come with a fair share of drama as the drink is served in a smoke infused chamber.
Overall, Bar Uno at JW Marriott has taken the cocktail game to an all new level. A visit to this classy yet vibrant place is sure to give your tastebuds a much-needed change and yes, you are gonna love the Aged Cocktails here!!
